DataCore Intelligence Service (DcsTmy) Status Notifications

DataCore Intelligence Service (DcsTmy) Status Notifications in SANsymphony provide real-time visibility into the connection status of the DataCore Intelligence Service. This feature helps you monitor the connectivity and data transmission between the DcsTmy Service and the cloud. SANsymphony triggers alert notifications whenever there is a change in connectivity status or data transmission, ensuring that necessary actions can be taken promptly. Refer to the DataCore Intelligence Service documentation for more information about the DcsTmy Service.

This feature benefits Cloud Service Provider (CSP) customers, enabling them to monitor their DcsTmy Service connection status in real-time. It ensures compliance with contractual obligations and supports continuous operational status, helping to keep the system running smoothly at all times. Refer to the CSP License and Compliance documentation for more information about the CSP license compliance.

  • By default, DcsTmy Service status notifications are enabled in SANsymphony only if you have a CSP license. You can enable or disable the status notifications using DataCore cmdlets to manage your notification preferences.
  • If you have a non-CSP license, DcsTmy Service status notifications are disabled by default.

By allowing the DcsTmy Service notification status in SANsymphony, the following significant benefits can be obtained:

  • Real-Time DcsTmy Service Status: Shows whether the DcsTmy Service is connected and transmitting data to the cloud. The status is updated in real-time when a connectivity change occurs, with a confirmation sent every hour. If no communication is received between the DcsTmy Service and SANsymphony for 24 hours, the status changes to "Unknown." This may also occur when the DataCore Executive Service (DCSX service) in SANsymphony starts or restarts, and the "Unknown" status may last up to an hour until the next scheduled update.
  • Notifications for Connection Status: Provides status updates such as Connected, Disconnected, or Unknown, ensuring that necessary action can be taken to resolve any connectivity issues, particularly when the status is Disconnected or Unknown.
  • Compliance Assurance: It ensures that customers, particularly CSP customers, remain compliant with their license terms.
  • Data Collection Manifest: Provides transparency on the types of data being collected. Refer to the DataCore Intelligence Service Collection Manifest for more information.

Prerequisites

Before enabling DcsTmy Service status monitoring and receiving notifications, ensure the following prerequisites are met:

  • The DcsTmy Service must run under the same administrative account on the Windows machine as SANsymphony to provide connection status notifications. By default, this account is DCSAdmin.
  • SANsymphony 10.0 PSP20 and DataCore Intelligence Service 1.9 or later are required for DcsTmy Service status notifications to be available.

Managing DcsTmy Service Status Notifications in SANsymphony

You can control DcsTmy Service status monitoring by enabling or disabling the status notifications through the following DataCore cmdlets.

DataCore Cmdlet Description
Get-DCSServerGroupTelemetryStatus Retrieves the current telemetry status.
Enable-DCSTelemetryStatusMonitoring Enables DcsTmy Service status monitoring and alert notifications.
Disable-DCSTelemetryStatusMonitoring Disables DcsTmy Service status notifications. (Not recommended for CSP customers).
Set-DcsTelemetryStatusHeartbeatInterval

Configures the interval for detecting the "Unknown" status of the DcsTmy Service. By default, this interval is set to 24 hours, meaning the system checks for DcsTmy Service updates every 24 hours. If no updates are received within this interval, the DcsTmy Service status is set to "Unknown," indicating a potential connectivity issue between the DcsTmy service and SANsymphony.

This heartbeat interval determines how often the system validates the connection between SANsymphony and DcsTmy service. It is recommended to consult with DataCore support before modifying this value.

Enabling or Disabling DcsTmy Service Data Collection

Data collection can be enabled or disabled at any time. Refer to the Enabling or Disabling Data Collection documentation for more information.

If you are using a CSP license, you cannot disable the telemetry data transmission from SANsymphony to the cloud, as it is a required part of the terms of service. However, you have the flexibility to enable or disable DcsTmy Service status notifications within SANsymphony using DataCore cmdlets.

DcsTmy Service Status Notifications

The DcsTmy Service reports three primary statuses to help monitor the connectivity state of the service. When a status change occurs, corresponding alert notifications are triggered. These notifications provide detailed information to help identify the cause of the DcsTmy Service status change, enabling efficient diagnosis and resolution of potential issues.

DcsTmy Service Status Description
Connected The DcsTmy Service is successfully connected to the cloud and transmitting data.
Disconnected The DcsTmy Service is not connected to the cloud. An error message with an error code will be displayed. You can view the cause of the issue in detail by navigating to the Alerts tab or Log Messages section within the DataCore Management Console or via the “Get-DCSServerGroupTelemetryStatus” DataCore cmdlet to check the error details. Refer to the DataCore Intelligence Service- Error Codes for troubleshooting these error codes.
Unknown The status is reported as 'Unknown' when the DcsTmy service has not updated its status within the last 24 hours. This could mean that the DcsTmy service is either not running on the SANsymphony Controller node or is unable to connect to the SANsymphony API. A common cause of this issue is when the DCSX service and the DcsTmy service are running under different Windows user accounts. To resolve this, ensure both services run under the same user account. You can view the cause of this error in detail by navigating to the Alerts tab or Log Messages section within the DataCore Management Console (DMC) or via the “Get-DCSServerGTelemetryStatus” DataCore cmdlet to check the error details.

If you are using a CSP license, alert notifications are triggered when the DcsTmy Service status changes to "Disconnected" or "Unknown." In some cases, these alerts may also indicate that your CSP license is out of compliance, based on the DcsTmy Service connectivity status change. This requires immediate action to prevent or resolve potential license violations. Refer to the CSP License Compliance Alerts Breakdown documentation for more information.

Troubleshooting the DcsTmy Service Error Codes

When the DataCore intelligence Service connectivity status changes to "Disconnected", an error message with an associated error code is generated in the DataCore Management Console (DMC). The DataCore Intelligence Service has been enhanced to provide detailed insights into the root causes of these errors that caused the DcsTmy Service connectivity status change.
